San Juan, Puerto Rico

Isabel Unanue works as an educator, researcher and facilitator dedicated to developing spaces for increased self- and relational awareness. Isabel earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University, a Master’s in Psychology in Education at Teachers College Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology at Yale University. Isabel serves as Adjunct Faculty for the University of Puerto Rico where she teaches courses on community psychology and social change. For her doctoral dissertation, Isabel found that in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane María, community residents and leaders joined forces to promote efforts in sustainable agriculture, solar energy, and horizontal system building. With time however, these efforts often fell apart due to leadership burnout and relational issues. Inspired by her results, Isabel is interested in the relationship between psychological, emotional growth and positive social change. Towards this aim, she is founding and directing Dos Cielos, a retreat center in the mountains of Puerto Rico dedicated to contemplative practice and conscious leadership.
